Korean Interface Seminar

The INTERFACE Seminar, which draws together the big picture of a missional church, was held on Monday, July 22nd at Living Church (Senior Pastor Jaekyung Kwak), hosted by the Washington Area Korean Church Council (Chairman Elisa Park). This collaborative seminar, with 33 participants and 5 facilitators, shared and discussed the mission of God's people and the missional church.

The Interface Seminar is a seminar developed as a guidance program for mission leaders by Simply Mobilizing International, which currently provides Kairos training in 35 languages in 112 countries. It shares why a missional church should exist from a biblical, historical, and strategic perspective. This seminar was conducted in a workshop format from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to encourage participants to think together about what a ‘missional church’ and a ‘church on mission with God’ would look like.

Pastor Daeyoung Kim (Fellowship Church, MD), who introduced and conducted the first lesson called ‘Mission, the Bible, and the People of God’ said that the Interface Seminar was a great help in drawing a picture of a missional church for all cell group leaders at Fellowship Church. He continued that it was a program that encouraged them to participate, and that mission is God's command that must be accomplished regardless of church size. Kyeong-Hwa Park (pastor’s wife, Living Church) said in her review of the seminar that

"it [Interface] once again reminded her that the missionary God wants to establish a missional church."

Colleen B. Di Raddo (SMUSA, National Director, Ph.D) visited to encourage the local church pastor couple and mission leaders. She shared the vision of a missionary church through the Simply Mobilizing ministry, and challenged everyone to dream and practice a day when all generations can worship together with the nations before the throne of the Lamb of God.

Simply Mobilizing USA runs Kairos training and mission mobilization all across the United States in multiple languages. Their vision is to expand to the Caribbean and the Republic of Georgia, and provide youth mission education and children's mission education for the next generation.

Elisa Park, president of the Church Council, said he was grateful that a seminar toward a missional church was being held under the sponsorship of the Mission Committee of Open Door Presbyterian Church, and expressed his hopes that there would be more opportunities for missions through joint ministries.
