SMUSA at Connecting Mission Leaders: A New Thing!

SMUSA was invited to attend the Connecting Mission Leaders Conference in Houston, Texas, where this year’s theme, “A New Thing,” was drawn from Isaiah 43:18–19. And the Lord certainly delivered! It was a weekend of new connections in more ways than one.

The plenary speakers are always top-notch, but this year felt especially meaningful. For many of us who have taken or helped facilitate the Kairos course in recent years, Dr. Yaw Perbi’s retelling of the Abraham Connection video has left a lasting impression. So, meeting him in person was a bit of an awe-inspiring moment!
His message, “Egos, Logos, and a Village,” opened the conference with both conviction and inspiration. His infectious passion for the Kingdom of God, which so many of us have experienced through our screens and monitors, was even more dynamic and vibrant in person.
As only God can orchestrate, each speaker’s plenary session reinforced a common message: the importance of unity, collaboration, and teamwork in fulfilling the Great Commission.

Our exhibitor table also saw plenty of activity, thanks in part to Dr. Perbi’s books being available for purchase and the many shoutouts for the Kairos course and SMUSA ministry from the conference stage. One of the most meaningful highlights, however, was Dr. Perbi’s personal encouragement to our Youth Mobilization Team. It was a wonderful demonstration of wisdom and zeal coming together as we continue pressing toward the prize!
Youth Mobilization Team

As mentioned, our Youth Mobilization Team (YMT) was invited to participate in the conference in two ways: representing SMUSA at the exhibitor table and joining a breakout session panel.
The panel featured young adults sharing their perspectives on engaging and mobilizing the next generation for missions. Anya Hutchcraft, Alyssa Barros, and Nathan Barros represented SMUSA, sharing how the Kairos course has impacted them—not only as believers but now as leaders in the mobilization movement.
Anya and Alyssa, SMUSA’s National Youth Coordinators, also shared their vision testimony of Kids Kairos and their passion to see more of their generation joining God on mission throughout the United States.

The excitement in the room was palpable! Many of the more seasoned leaders in attendance were eager to hear these younger voices, gain fresh perspectives, and explore what the future of mobilization and missions could look like. The conversation highlighted the importance of mobilizing ALL generations—from elementary-age children to those approaching or enjoying retirement—and recognizing that each has a unique role and purpose in God's mission.
Seeing generations come together around a shared vision for the Great Commission was truly a bottom-line blessing for everyone in the room!
